Winter is the season we are waiting for every year. It is the time for warm clothes, Christmas and New Year holiday and, of course, white snow. We usually have a lot of snow in Lithuania. There are a lot of opportunities to build a snow house, a snowman, play snow-war, etc. Our travel agency wants to share this white joy with you and invites you to come to visit Lithuania in wintertime! Vilnius is decorated from the first of December – come and see our sparkling city with its festival Spirit. Let us remind you that every year Vilnius has the tallest Christmas tree in Europe.

December 30. Arrival to Vilnius in the morning. Check in at the hotel.
City sightseeing tour with a guide. Admire decorated Vilnius and visit the Cathedral, Pilies street, Vilnius University courtyards and Presidential area, the Gates of Dawn, the Town Hall with a traditional Christmas tree.
Vilnius by night: discover the lights and decorations of the winter holiday in the city. Bus can stop at the most picturesque places. Optional welcome dinner: Lithuanian traditional cuisine with a folk show.
December 31. Have a walk in the decorated city. Attend traditional places of winter fairs or one of the biggest entertainment and trade centres in Vilnius called “Acropolis” which has cinemas, a skating-rink, shops, souvenir stores and restaurants.
The celebration of the New Year’s evening: holiday dinner plus champagne, carnival, evening program, fireworks. Separate holiday program can be available for children too.
January 1. Tour to Trakai – explore Trakai castle and its historical museum. In 1321 Grand Duke Gediminas built Trakai castle on the peninsula of the lake Galve. This castle served briefly as the capital of his lands before he moved back to Vilnius in 1323.
Optional: Lithuanian beer tasting and dinner in a Brewery pub in Vilnius. The tasting takes place on the 3rd floor in the hall decorated with historical items of the brewery, the clients sit on wooden benches at one big hand made oak table on wooden benches. They can get 10 different kinds of beer that are made in various parts of Lithuania. After that they can buy various kinds of beer souvenirs (glasses, T-shirts, posters, etc.).
January 2. Departure to Kaunas, the second largest city of Lithuania, often called the country’s heartland. City tour of Kaunas includes the Old Town with the 13th century Kaunas castle, Town Hall Square, decorated with a Christmas tree (and known locally as “White Swan”), Cathedral-Basilica, Perkunas House.
It is possible to attend holiday festivals or concerts in the evening. Free time.
January 3. Depart to a small town in the northeast of the country called Anyksciai. It has picturesque forests, hills, the 750 mm narrow gauged railway, the River Sventoji and the Horse museum. Two more sites you should visit are Puntukas Stone and the pointed tower of Anyksciai church.
Visit the museum in which a narrow gauge is exhibited – a unique one in the railway system. The Horse museum provides the possibility to ride a horse.
Check in at a newly reconstructed hotel “Mindaugo karuna” which has a complex with sauna, sports hall, swimming pool, bar and other leisure activities.
January 4. Skiing down the Kaletos hill near Anyksciai . There you will find a skiing route, a funicular and ski rent..
A wine tour: the tour consists of a historical overview of the biggest wine producing company in Lithuania “Anyksciu vynas”, a look around the entire plant, from the huge bins where lorries dump the local fruits, through the fruit presses, tanks and finally the fascinating automated bottling process, and finishing off nicely with a tasting session in a sumptuous room in the basement.
Provided the weather is unsuitable for skiing, a visit the Hill of Crosses near Siauliai can be organised. The first crosses were originally erected to commemorate the 1863 uprising. On his visit to Lithuania Pope Paul II held the Mass there. You can leave your little cross to fulfil your secret dreams. In Siauliai it is possible to visit “Gubernija” Brewery, founded in 1786.
January 5. Leave for Kernave in the northwest of Vilnius, which is one of the most beautiful places in this area. Kernave was the first capital of Lithuania (1279).
Optional: visit to the National Archaeological Museum that was established on January 1, 1989. It is the only specialised museum of archaeology in the country.
