Vilnius-Trakai-Druskininkai-Kaunas

Duration  6 days.

Our travel agency suggests visiting not only Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania but Kaunas, Trakai, Druskininkai as well. We think that everybody can find something exciting during this tour. We offer not only traditional sightseeing, but a rest in the nature too – Druskininkai and the Open Air Museum are famous for their picturesque surroundings.

1st day. Arrival to Vilnius in the morning. Accommodation at a hotel.
City sightseeing: admire the most interesting places of the Old Town – the Cathedral, Pilies str., Vilnius University courtyards and Presidential office area, St. Ann’s church, St. Peter&Paul’s Church, the Gates of Dawn with the chapel housing a holy image of the Virgin Mary, Town Hall Square.
Visit the Higher Castle Museum – a legendary building that dates back to the 13 century and opens the fabulous sight of the Old Town. Inside the three-storeyed tower you’ll find models of the castle as it was in the 13th century, displays of ancient ammunition and arms, other historical exhibits.
Free time. Optional evening event:
National dinner in a restaurant: try our traditional food and drinks; be entertained by a folk show.
Overnight at hotel in Vilnius.

2nd day. Tour to Trakai. Vast lakes and a fairy tale castle have inspired legends and superstitions for centuries. In 1321 Grand Duke Gediminas built Trakai castle on the peninsula of lake Galve. This castle served briefly as the capital of his lands before he moved back to Vilnius in 1323.
Return to Vilnius. Free time: shopping, buying souvenirs in the Old Town or in the trade and leisure centre “Akropolis” (stores, cinemas, skating-rink, restaurants). In the evening departure to Druskininkai.
3rd day. In the southern part of Lithuania, near Druskininkai, face the history alive in Grutas Park. Here in the shade of firs and pines the Soviet era monuments torn down in 1989 and brought from Lithuanian cities, are expansively laid out.
Tour to Druskininkai health resort which is famous for its sanatoriums, unique spurting mineral springs, parks that are beneficial to your health. The famous painter M. K. Ciurlionis lived and created in this spa town. Visit Liskiava – an old (mentioned in documents in 1044) town at the distance of 9 km from Druskininkai. Explore the Liskiava hill – a fort with the remnants of the castle tower, the restored monastery, a wonderful Baroque and Rococo church, Lake Liskiava.
Return to Druskininkai and overnight.

4th day. You may go for the health treatment which is available from morning till afternoon. You can try a swimming pool with cascades, pearly, carbonic acid, oxygen, herbal, vertical baths, underwater massage, curative douches, mud baths, physiotherapy, curative massage, etc.
In the afternoon depart for Kaunas. Arrival to Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania, which served briefly as the provisional capital of the country (1939-1940). The city tour of Kaunas explores its splendidly restored Old Town with the 13th century Kaunas castle, The town Hall, known locally as “White Swan”, the Cathedral-Basilica, the Perkunas House. The tour includes a visit to the M. K. Ciurlionis State Art Museum or the Devil Museum.
Optional evening event:
* dinner at the beer restaurant. The main ingredient of the dishes cooked is beer. This is the only place where beer is produced from honey.
* concert on request.
Overnight at hotel in Kaunas.

5th day. Departure for Rumsiskes the Open-Air Museum, which displays the heritage of Lithuanian rural life in a vast collection of entire authentic buildings. There you can see works of potters, smiths, amber processors.
The tour starts at the Pazaislis Monastery where the collection of Baroque buildings makes up the Pazaislis Convent (1664-1712). From there take a boat to Rumsiskes. During the sail admire the scenery and have a picnic with traditional meals and drinks. Excursion to the museum. Late in the afternoon the bus departs from Rumsiskes to Vilnius. Overnight at a hotel in Vilnius (two options are possible: overnight in Vilnius or departure in the evening).

6th day. Breakfast at the hotel. Departure
