Military Museum of Vytautas the Great

    This museum is considered to be one of the most important museums in Lithuania. It was founded in 1921. It is located in a very comfortable part of Kaunas. It is not difficult to notice this museum – grand building lies in a quiet empty square. A very friendly lion lies in front of the building. Military Museum adjoins the M.K.Ciurlionis Museum as well. This museum contains almost everything, what is connected with the war (from prehistoric to modern times): archaeological finds, weapons, firearms, ammunition, army uniforms of various states and etc. Also here you can look at the collection of ethnographic photographs, sport trophies and documents. There are the exhibitions of pre-history of Lithuania, the History of Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the 1812 War, the 1830 –1831 and 1863 Uprisings, World War I and some others.
    One of the most interesting things here to see is the wreck of the "Lituanica". That is to say "Lituanica" was the plane in which Lithuanian aviators Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas attempted to fly non-stop from New York to Kaunas in 1933.
