Thomas Mann Museum

Lithuanian resort town Nida was a home to a famous German writer Thomas Mann (1875 – 1955). He wrote novels and essays on politics, music, literature and philosophy, he is best known for "The Magic Mountain" and "Death in Venice". Not surprisingly, in 1929 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for the literature.
Thomas Mann came to Nida with his family on holidays. He liked the beautiful site of Curonian Lagoon and decided to build a Lithuanian style summerhouse there. He spent his summers between 1930 and 1932 in this cottage.
Today, his house, situated on the high shore of lagoon, is open to the public as the Thomas Mann Museum.
