Vilna Gaon Lithuanian State Jewish Museum

The museum is located in two buildings: in the Lithuanian Jewish Community Centre (Pylimo 4) and in the Green House (Pamenkalnio 12). The permanent displays explore such themes as "In memory of the Great Synagogue", "PURIMSPIEL" (Reborn Dolls), "Gallery of the Righteous”, "The Jews of Lithuania in the Fight Against Nazism", "Catastrophe (Holocaust)". January 30, 2001 a new exhibition "The King of Violinists Jascha Heifetz in Vilnius" was opened in Pylimo 4.
The museum in Pamenkalnio street introduces to Jewish history and culture in Vilnius and Lithuania. The museum houses a very impressive collection of documents relating in detail to the events of the Holocaust in Lithuania. Among these are included documents (returns) from commanders of the "Einsatzgruppen" (Nazi mobile killing squads) reporting on the macabre results of their many and brutal "Aktions".
The exhibits of the museum depict the struggle of the Vilna and Kovno Jewish Ghettos and pay tribute to the Japanese consul Chiune Sugihara, "Baltic Schindler".
