St. Peter and Paul’s Church

The most outstanding Baroque structure ever built in Lithuania. The breathtaking beautiful interior contains over two thousand stuccoed figures representing mythological, biblical and battle scenes. This church in Vilnius was commissioned in 1668 by Michael Casimir Pac, Grand Hetman of the Lithuanian armies. His tombstone, inscribed "Hic jacet peccator" (Here lies the sinner) is embedded in the wall to the right of the entrance. Despite a plain facade, the baroque interior is beautiful. The artists who worked on the interior were directed by the Italian masters Pietro Peretti and Giovanni Maria Galli.
