| Hill of Three Crosses In Vilnius you can climb the Hill of Three Crosses from where the "terrific view" of the city is uncovered. The hill is located nearby Gediminas castle on the opposite bank of the river Vilnia. Three white crosses standing on the top symbolize Lithuanians' mourning and hope. The legend says that centuries ago seven Franciscan monks were crucified here and four were thrown into the Vilnia. The first crosses were erected on the hill in 17th century in memory of these martyrs. Being removed and buried during Stalin’s rule, only in 1989 were the crosses rebuilt.
